Its High Time These Laws Should Be Done Away With

If  your past you refuse to let go,

There are certain things that you need to know.

If the little bird refuses to take off for a flight,

Never will she learn how to put a fight.

If you stick to the apparitions of your past,

You only delay your future in this world, wide and vast.

The show must go on and we must move on. How many times did you say this to yourself when you had a break – up with bae? Or, how many times have you been told this when you have failed miserably? Sometimes, we find it difficult to let go of certain entities. Well, that’s human nature. However, how do we explain these?

India is a culturally diverse country. We refuse to let go of the traditions that have been a part of our lives since time immemorial. It is good that we still take pride in the principles of Gandhi. Just like us, these countries refuse to let go of their past.

  • The Federated States of Micronesia is a country made up of numerous islands in the Pacific Ocean, including the island state of Yap. Here, the traditional form of money, giant limestone discs are still in use, instead of paper currency. (I guess, they must be requiring several Bahubalis to carry out money transactions.)

  • Ethiopia still follows a calendar that is seven years behind the rest of the world. (Well, that’s good news for the ladies. Here, any woman can claim to be 23 years old when she is actually 30!)

A long time ago, when the lawmakers of some countries erred, the following laws came into being, of which the countries still refuse to let go!

  • In the 1800s, a law was passed in Arkansas that allowed a husband to beat his wife, once a month.
  • In China, it is illegal for the Tibetan monks to reincarnate without the Government’s permission. (Is this how China tackles overpopulation?)

  • In Switzerland, it is illegal to flush your toilet after 10 p.m., as they believe it causes noise pollution. (How does it matter, if, in your attempt to prevent noise pollution, you cause soil pollution?)
  • This one would urge you to request the Government of India for a similar law. In Denmark, one does not have to pay for his food in restaurants unless, by his own opinion, his stomach is full. If he isn’t full, he walks away without paying the bill!
  • In Texas, if you are going to commit a crime, you have to notify the police 24 hours prior (Now this is what you call a planned crime!)

Letting go of someone is more of a personal choice. However, when your country starts taking such decisions for you, the story might get slightly different.

  • In the Philippines and the Vatican, couples think more than twice before tying the knot, as these are the only two countries where divorce is illegal. (Well, I guess Ross Geller always wanted to relocate to either of these countries!)

So, the next time you find it difficult to let go of something or someone, then need not fret; You are not alone… Remember,

If the flower bud refuses to bloom,

That day, my friend will be the Day of Doom.

If you really want to do well in your life,

You must move on, with hard work and strife.
