Where Do Superstitions Come From?

What do you think about an itchy palm? how do you feel about number 13? What hits in mind when you encounter a cat crossing your way? many suspected these as an effect to the human’s luck or life and other ones simply ignored these theories.

Superstitions exist all over the world. The superstitions remarked their origin from back in historical events. Few superstitions are rumored, few were embarked by ancestors where they addressed things which spread into four winds and became the addressees who lived till yet because it been followed by people for decades, perhaps few superstitions have compelling stories and actuality engaged with it. These superstitions have no science associated and are not practicality based, perhaps the question arises “Why are these followed if they don’t behold a practicality or facts support them?” The answer to this is that many superstitions are based on religion. The world is a binding force of religions and cultures, every landmass represents a religion and perhaps represents their superstitions too which have traveled from its religion’s history.

Biggest Superstitions And Their Cause

The biggest superstition of Western countries lies with number thirteen which again dates back to the religious history and old times. The time of the first century, the year 1632, Jesus was sitting with his twelve disciples and adding Christ would form a group of thirteen members. , he got arrested and brutally crucified when he accompanied his twelve disciples. The crucifixion was held on 385 years ago or near about 1,38,600 days from this moment.

Perhaps this was also 385 years of travel for the superstitions which still ventured strongly at every western household. Number thirteen was forbidden tremendously. The office buildings skipped floor thirteen, these floors were locked and hence never stepped in. T-shirts or sports jerseys displaying the number thirteen always wandered in a warehouse because they never happened to be sold. Corporate meetings avoided thirteen members. Also, don’t drop your jaw if you see house number fourteen after twelve, in Western countries.

Believe it or not, some superstitions have survived to make sense! A few of them would be the theater scenarios where the background was adjusted by motors. The motor was handled by each handler on one side who would whistle to each other to balance the hard board background. Once an absent-minded whistle from the backstage crew led to a dis-coordination of motor handlers which resulted in the hard board background being dropped and the death of two performers. Since then, whistling has been considered the worst luck in the field of theater and the artist would show an eye to a crew whistling.

India is an old hub of superstitions and if we name them all, the keyboard keys will spring off by over usage. India’s most famous yet silly superstition is to hang lemons and chilly to block the evil’s eye and consumption of curd to avoid bad results. Well, don’t bad results reflect the need for your practice? or just the curd has it all in the country?
