 1. Pink Sand Beach

Harbour Island of Bahamas is well-known amidst the unusual beaches for its Pink Sand Beach located on the eastern Atlantic Ocean. The pink sand beach has been featured in the Travel Channel’s World’s Best Beaches in 2005.

The sand is pink in color due to a microscopic organism called foraminifera that has a bright pink or red shell. These shells have holes and spread a footing called pseudopodia. When the micro-organism dies, the dead cells flush out on the shore and get assorted with corals and sand. Thus, giving it a pink hint. Pink sand is cool around the year with warm water making it just the right choice to roam around barefoot.

2. Pfeiffer Beach

Pfeiffer Beach also known as the Purple Sand Beach is located in California, United States. Although Pfeiffer Beach is not far from the Big Sur, the place remains almost unknown among the travelers.

Purple sand beach takes its unique and pleasing color from the nearby mountains. These mountains are rich in certain minerals such as manganese garnet which is a purple toned silicate. The purple color stands out most after the winter and stormy seasons. Due to the mineral composition, newly moistened sand shines when reflected the light.

3. Black Sand Beach

Black Sand Beaches are found in Auckland, New Zealand. Mainly because New Zealand is a land of volcanos. Thus, the black color comes from the volcanic minerals and iron oxide. Contrary to the pink beach, these rare and unusual beaches get hot pretty quickly due to its color. That makes the footwear necessary to explore these beaches, Otherwise, you are coming back home with burnt soles.

4. Glass Beach

Glass Beach is located in the south of Mackerricher State Park of the Fort Bragg in California. Famous among the unusual beaches for the smooth colorful glass pebbles all over the place. The place was one a trash dumping site, full of garbage from broken bottles. When the garbage pile would become too big, a huge fire would bring it down to a manageable size. That explains why the glasses are smooth and not sharp. Though, it is illegal to take any glass pebble back from the beach now. You can take as many pictures as you want.
