Bored? Get An Insight Into The World’s Most Unusual Borders!

When we think of international borders, what comes to our mind? As a result of the reflex action, we think of military fences, barbed wire boundaries or dividers, and boundaries. Apparently, this needs to be maintained in order to keep peace and friendship with the bordering countries. But not all borders are a result of war and unhealthy relationship between two neighboring countries. Also, not all borders are explicitly well defined. Some of these are the most unusual borders never heard before!

Some of the borders around the globe do not make sense at all but are quite fascinating and noteworthy. These are just a road passing by or a difference in landforms. These borders are absolutely cool and anything but, worth taking a trip for!

Below is the list of some of the most unconventional and unusual borders:

1. Belgium and Netherlands

The border between Belgium and Netherlands tops the list of unusual borders. The border lays on the two towns namely the Belgian town of Baarle-Hertog and the Dutch town of Baarle-Nassau.

It goes straight through some houses and cafes. This seemingly pointless border exists as a result of land laws and reforms between two states. Literally, borders can be seen running from roads and this sounds amazing. On one side is written B to indicate Belgium and on the other is NL to signify the Netherlands.

2. Nepal and China

One of the coolest borders is that of Nepal and China. Both of the nations share the world’s tallest mountain Mount Everest and their border goes through the middle of the mountain, hence sharing the peak itself. This makes it the highest border area.

3. Argentina-Paraguay-Brazil

Ever heard of the natural border? No, then this is the right place. The three South American nations are separated by a natural river. The Parana River separates the three countries making it one of a kind. The border also has a name – “The Triple Frontier”.

4. Poland and Ukraine

Quite literally the border between Poland and Ukraine has two fish drawn on it. Puzzled? But that’s the truth.

Polish-born artist Jaroslaw Koziara created this art masterpiece in 2011. Several plants were grown to create fish crop border. The festival called ‘The Land Art Festival’ is celebrated every year glorifying the art and nature. The border is shared by Horodyszcze, Poland and Warez, Ukraine.

5. USA and Canada

Unusual and unconventional, the border between USA and Canada passes through the town of Derby Line, Vermont. Passing right through the town, it even splits some buildings and places.

Having purposely built on the border is a library and opera house named The Haskell Free Library and Opera House. Thus, making it the only library to operate in two countries at once.

No wonder, visitors don’t need to have a passport to enter!

The entrance and seats are in the US but the opera stage is in Canada. It is also the longest international border in the world.
