Crazy Last Meals Of Death Row Inmates

Ever wondered what a hardened criminal would want to eat for his last meal?

Criminals are just like us. Even though they have committed the most heinous of crimes, as per law, they get to choose their last meal. From mud to an extravagant plate of lobsters, here are a few interesting and controversial last meals of death row inmates, as requested by them.

John Wayne Gacy  (The Killer Clown)

John Wayne Gacy Jr. (March 17, 1942 – May 10, 1994) was an American serial killer and rapist. He sexually assaulted, tortured, and murdered at least 33 teenage boys and young men between 1972 and 1978 in Cook County, Illinois.

For his last meal, he ordered for 12 fried shrimp, french fries, a bucket of KFC fried chicken, and a bunch of strawberries. The irony was that he was a KFC Manager at different locations.

Timothy McVeigh

Timothy James McVeigh (April 23, 1968 – June 11, 2001) was an American domestic terrorist convicted and executed for the detonation of an ammonium nitrate and nitromethane fertilizer truck bomb in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995, killing 168 people and injuring over 600.

For his last meal, he requested 2 pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream. Can’t say it was the worst choice out of all the last meals of death row inmates, can we?!

Ronnie Lee Gardner

Ronnie Lee Gardner (January 16, 1961 – June 18, 2010) was an American criminal who received the death penalty for murder in 1985 and was executed 25 years later by a firing squad which he had requested for.

His last meal request was quite fancy and included lobster, steak, vanilla ice cream and apple pie. He additionally requested to watch The Lord of the Rings along with it!

Thomas J Grasso

Thomas J. Grasso was a serial home robber who was convicted of murdering an 87-year-old woman whom he strangled with her Christmas lights and later went on to kill an 81-year-old man six months later after stealing his social security check.

Grasso’s last meal was a lavish spread of clams, mussels, pumpkin pie and milkshake, and a can of Spaghetti-O’s.

More interesting than his last meal, would be his famous last words: “I did not get my Spaghetti-O’s, I got spaghetti. I want the press to know this.

Lawrence Russell Brewer

He was arrested for the murder of James Byrd Jr, later dragging him 3 miles on their pickup truck on an asphalt road.

His last meal request was chicken fried steak, a cheeseburger, an omelet made of beef and cheese, a pizza covered in meat, jalapeno peppers, barbecue meat, bread, fajitas and  3 root beers along with peanut butter fudge and some ice cream. The prison official gave in to his long demands, however upon being given the food, he refused to touch it. The State of Texas later decided to discontinue the tradition of last meals of death row inmates.

Well, that was a lot of food wasted. Wonder what they did with it?

Ted Bundy

Theodore Robert Bundy (born Theodore Robert Cowell; November 24, 1946 – January 24, 1989) was an American serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar, and necrophile who assaulted and murdered numerous young women and girls during 1970. Bundy is one of the most horrific serial killers of all time and was found guilty of more than 30 murders.

When asked for his last meal, he refused it. Later, he was served the standard prison meal consisting of steak, eggs, toast and hash browns, milk, coffee, and juice. He went on to refuse that too!

William Bonin

William George Bonin (January 8, 1947 – February 23, 1996) was an American serial killer and twice-paroled sex offender, also known as the Freeway Killer who use to rape, torture, and murder young men in South California

For his last meal, he requested two pizzas, chocolate ice cream, and eighteen colas (mix of Coke and Pepsi).

Wow, that’s a lot of sugar in one meal, don’t you think?

Philip Workman

Philip Ray Workman (1 June 1953 – 9 May 2007) was a death row inmate executed in Tennessee on May 9, 2007. Workman was convicted of first-degree murder even though many consider him to be an innocent man on a death row and his trial was quite controversial in nature.

Unlike others who ordered for large fancy meals, Workman wanted a Vegetarian Pizza delivered to a homeless man. The prison officials denied his request, causing people to protest outside the prison, and many of his supporters fulfilled his wishes by personally delivering Veg Pizzas to homeless people.

James Edward Smith

He was found guilty of murder during a robbery at The International Trade Centre, Houston. His last meal was dirt since he believed in Voodoo rituals and wanted to use dirt to mark bodies, so the spirit would move on and not become a ghost. However, he had to settle with yogurt.

Chances are, you are hungry looking at all these delicious last meals of death row inmates.

So, think about it if you had to choose your last ever meal on Earth, what would it be?

A Big Mac from McDonald’s with a portion of large fries, butter chicken with garlic naan, or something simpler like a home cooked meal?
