But, why have a cheat day when you can enjoy Holi guilt-free with these Holi recipes?

1. Home-made Chakli

Rice flour1 cup
Low Fat Butter1 tbsp.
Urad dal flour1 tbsp.
Oil for greasing1 Tsp
Sugar1 Tsp
Ginger, green chilli & Garlic paste.1 Tsp

Method

  • Combine all the ingredients mentioned above in the given quantities and prepare dough out of it.
  • Take the dough and divide it into 2 equal portions. Take one portion and put it in the chakli press and then put it on the greased baking tray.
  • Put the greased tray in the oven at 180 degree Celsius (You need to preheat the oven). Keep the chakli dough in the microwave for about 20-25 minutes. Let it be inside the microwave for getting crisp.
  • Take out the tray and gently flip it to the other side and keep it inside the preheated oven.
  • Repeat the same steps with another portion of the dough. Let the oven be preheated. (Preheating for the second portion is not required)
  • Store it properly in the airtight container. Your chakli is ready!

2. Healthy Gujias with the goodness of dates!

Grated Coconut1 cup
Dates puree3 tbsp.
Milk1&1/2 cup
Chopped Dried Fruits1 tbsp.
Cardamom Powder½ tsp
Poppy Seeds (Khaskas)1 tbsp.

Method

  • Combine all the ingredients and knead the mixture. (Prepare the dough and use water)
  • Cover the prepared dough with a thin cloth and keep it aside.
  • To prepare the dates puree, soak the dates in water (previous night) and blend in next day.
  • Use dates puree instead of sugar for the stuffing. The stuffing can be altered accordingly, depending on the individual requirement for sweetness.
  • To prepare the gujia stuffing, prepare the filling ingredients like coconut, dates puree, milk, chopped dried fruits, cardamom powder, and poppy seeds. Cook it till it becomes completely dry.
  • Prepare small parts of dough and make it completely flat. Then stuff those flat dough rotis with the mixture. Make sure you are placing it in the center. Once you place it, make it like a pouch. To seal it you can use little milk and apply it at the corner.
  • Take a kadai and the heat the oil for 2-3 minutes. Fry at least 3 to 4 raw gujias at a time. Fry them until they are golden brown.
  • Remove the gujias in an oil absorbing paper and let them cool.
  • Store them in an airtight container.
  • Enjoy this with some thandai!

3. Oats laddu with the goodness of dry fruits!

Flaxseeds2 tbsp.
Cardamom Powder½ tsp

Method

  • Chop cashews, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, deseeded dates, and figs.
  • You can even roast cashews, almonds and pistachios for a minute to get the crisp flavour and then grind them. (Do not make a coarse powder)
  • Roast flax seeds and oats until they start popping and let them cool. Then take roasted flax seeds and oats to grind together into a fine powder.
  • Take a Kadai, add oats powder, nuts, figs and dates mixture. Cook it on low flame for 4 minutes.
  • When the mixture starts to come together, add cardamom powder. Mix well again and take off from the flame. Let it cool.
  • Once it is cool, make small ladoos out of the mixture. You can also use a drop or oil or desi ghee to combine it.

4. No Holi without Thandai!

Fennel seeds (Sauf)2 tbsp.
Peppercorns (Kali Mirch)20
Cardamom Powder½ tsp

Method

  • Take Almonds, poppy seeds, fennel seeds, cardamom powder, peppercorns and blend it to a fine powder.
  • Combine the fine powder and milk in the bowl. Mix it well and refrigerate it for 2 hours.
  • Strain the mixture through a strainer and add stevia powder, pepper powder, and saffron strands. Mix well.
  • Pour into the glasses and serve chilled. Enjoy it with other Holi recipes!

5. Nutty Rolls!

Dates1 cup
Walnuts½ cup
Cashew nuts½ cup
Almonds½ cup
Nutmeg powder½ tsp
Dried Coconut3/4th cup
Water1 cup


Method: –

  • Soak figs in warm water for 1 hour and chop dates into small pieces.
  • Finely chop all the dry fruits.
  • Grind the soaked figs without using water. Add chopped dates and blend to make a paste. Mix figs and dates paste with dry fruits to make the dough. Add coconut to the dough.
  • Divide dough into four pieces and make smooth balls. Then take each ball, keep it on a plastic sheet, and roll to make a thin layer.
  • Sprinkle chopped dry fruits on the layer and fold the layer to make a roll.
  • Fold the edges of the layer and repeat the procedure with remaining balls.
  • Refrigerate the wrapped balls for 2 to 4 hours.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut it in the shape you want.
  • Your dry fruit roll is ready to be served!
